About Intersection: Everything on Wheels

What you’re getting

Intersection: Everything That Moves began as a digital sequel on Substack to my book The End of Detroit: How The Big Three Lost Their Grip On The American Car Market.

Paid subscribers receive a PDF copy of the sequel we published last fall. For $30, you’ll get that and all our other content. So, consider upgrading.

Otherwise, Intersection provides you with regular essays and news updates. There are audio and video features and conversations. We offer data and analysis from trusted experts, reports from different places, and share how our subscribers are using different types of transportation.

We use Substack Notes to keep you informed. Make sure you have the Substack app so you can see them.

Your role as a reader

We want to hear about your experiences — as auto industry veterans, car and truck owners, as users of public transportation, and if you’re using other ways to get around like bikes, ride hailing or your own two feet.

You’re welcome to offer us personal essays and images about the way you view transportation. (Sorry, we can’t pay, at least not yet.) If you love cars, great! If you’ve given up owning one, tell us why. Send us links to your videos and we may re-post them.

More than anything, please spread the word about Intersection: Everything That Moves. Tell your friends and colleagues, share our subscription link on social media, and give this Substack as a gift. You can also become a founding member if you feel especially passionate about this topic.

P.S. we know people love swag. If you’re interested in hats, t-shirts or water bottles with our logo, let us know. We may put them into production.

Who Am I

My name is Micheline Maynard also known as Micki. I’m the author of five books and have been a columnist and journalist for news organizations including the Washington Post, the New York Times, NPR, and USA Today. I’ve taught at three universities and have another Substack newsletter called CulinaryWoman (thanks to everyone who subscribes).

In 2003, I published The End of Detroit: How The Big Three Lost Its Grip On The American Car Market. My book predicted the auto industry bankruptcies, the rise of Toyota and other international companies, and shifting attitudes among consumers. It’s still in print, if you’d like to refresh your memory about what I wrote.
